Withings announces two new products !

Ladies and Gentleman….All the Withings team is thrilled to announce the launch of two new Withings products !

Let’s begin the introduction with our first Thing, the ….. (suspense) ….. Withings Blood Pressure Monitor !

Revolutionary because of its function and design, the Withings Blood Pressure Monitor is directly connected to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch‘s connector. Measurement is instantaneous and done in only one gesture. Testing, tracking, graphing and sharing your blood pressure has never been that easy.

You can easily monitor your blood tension from your iOS Device or your online personal dashboard in order to make trend detection easier. Sharing option allows you to automatically and securely send your measurements to your physician. You can find more informations at http://www.withings.com/en/bloodpressuremonitor. The Withings Blood Pressure Monitor will be available in Europe by the end of March 2011 ! Some lucky ones are already testing it at the CES 2011. If you’re in Las Vegas, don’t hesitate to come and try it yourself : North Hall, Booth 3619

Many of you wrote us to suggest that Withings should launch its own blood pressure monitor. We kept secret we were developing one, to surprise you all. So, thanks again and don’t hesitate to tell us what you think of it!
UPDATE : To be the first to know when the BPM is available, you can register here.

Our second Thing is a Smart BabyMonitor !

The Withings Smart Baby Monitor is a video baby phone but it has nothing to do with the existing ones.
As a matter of fact, you can watch your baby directly from your iPhone, iPad, iTouch and Android! Your phone and other device are like a remote to control from distance the Smart BabyMonitor and alert you when you baby is about to wake up. You can also look at him even if you’re away at work for instance! It has a sound and motion detector. According to Withings philosophy, the Smart BabyMonitor will allow you to track your baby’s nights in time to see if he slept well.

The device also includes an infrared LED that gives you access to night vision. It also measure the temperature and humidity or the room to make sure the baby is comfortable. You can also select music to play through the monitor and stream music to it. You can even set up
personalized alarms
that alert you when there is unusual behaviours related to the baby’s movement or temperature.

The Withings Smart Baby Monitor will be available in September 2011… To be kept posted, you can register here.

Having to own an Apple device to use your product is a bad thing in my opinion.

The Blood Pressure Monitor would be more versatile if it had WLAN access like the scale.

  • Mobius

I agree with Markus, as someone who's very techie and yet doesn't own anything by Apple, this is a bit disappointing unless there are plans to have a MicroUSB connector (which at least is a proper international standard).

  • Mobius

Like the scales, there should not be anything proprietary about the product, it alienates more than half the market.

  • Pekka Yrjölä

This is not good! You are getting too united with Apple products. In my opinion, you should sell blood pressure and baby monitors which link via Wifi. And then make own apps for iphone, android, pc, etc.

I like very much withings scale + wifi + pc/android, but these new (Apple) products suck.

  • Cranky Goat

I think it is excellent, and if your are truly a 'techie' then you would appreciate the quality and care apple puts into its products – there is nothing wrong with supporting good quality product development. I like the baby monitor concept – but want to see if it can be used as a general security monitor, which is likely an even bigger market.

  • Julius Heilman

As a huge supporter and proponent of Withings scale, I'm very disappointed that this is apple only. Should be Wi-Fi like the scale, or at least Bluetooth so it can be used with more then one phone.

  • Eugene Bogorad

I'm an extremely happy user of your wifi scale. I've "sold" some 20+ scales to friends of mine. I'm extremely disappointed by your decision to hitch your great products to a crapple device. I realize the choice (wifi vs tethered) wasn't as obvious with a blood-pressure monitor as was with your scale. Still, you should've provided an alternative (wifi, usb).

  • Andre77ab

Blood pressure monitor, looking forward for an Android or Windows version :-)

  • Frank

Must have android. Read the stats, its over taking apple.

  • Jomy

As an iPhone owner, I am thrilled to see this new product.
I am fairly certain this will also work with an iPod touch.

There are already plenty of BP meters on the market that use a USB interface.
    Go buy one of those.

  • doog

@Mobius as you said…; "as someone who's very techie and yet doesn't own anything by Apple"
You hit the nail on the head, Apple stuff just works, you don't need to be 'techie', unlike accessories for 'windoze' ( I own both, incase anyone wonders, and I'm 'techie'!).
Thus anything for apple is much easier to use and market to non 'techies'.

  • louisetienneb

    Hey,

You should use the baby monitor for other application like monitoring the sleep of a person in order to analyse his sleep and provide data about it.

There are many products doing that as "zeo personnal sleep coach", wakemate and others…

Thoses products use a device you wear at bedtime to detect body movements. I do not know if it possible but you might be able to monitor directly with a cam?

I would love to have a product like that made by withings!

  • Wolfgang Lintl

Interesting! I would like to know, wich arm circumferenze it will fit to.

  • John

I like the BP monitor — it looks like a nice product that I will likely get if the price is reasonable.

Regarding the use of apple products: Honestly it's a really good way to solve the problem of keeping the base product price low while providing a good experience. While it certainly alienates people who don't have or want appple products but they are probably the most widely adapted of these types…

    -John

  • Aleksey Aristov

While being a happy user of your scale, I would not go for Apple-only product. Please support some open standard (wifi, usb).

  • Jeanne

    Hi all,
Thanks for your feedback! Let me explained why we chose to use only the iPhone for the blood pressure monitor. First, It was not possible to make it work with the Android because of the multiplicity of the Android connectors.

Second, our primary driver for this first version has been ease of setup and use and also to be able to take a reading everywhere. This is why we chose to use the Apple connector instead of wifi.

Regrading the Baby Monitor, I was not precise enough. It will also be compatible with Android. I corrected the blog post.

  • Ole Ilskov

I have been wondering why no one made a baby monitor like that. i would be fine without the cam, but for it to work with my iphone is great.

I wonder how it works. WiFi is no good if it doesnt send out a strong signal of its own. I need it to work everywhere. Here in Denmark babyes stil sleep outside in prams even when visiting friends or on trips.

I am looking forward to hearing more about this.

  • Robert

I am very interested in the BP product. Can you offer any specifics on availability and price? I will likely order one as soon as it becomes available.

  • Julius Heilman

@ Jeanne, all Android (and Apple) products have both WiFi and Bluetooth 'connectors'. It would seem to make sense to make a device that does not alienate a significant portion of your potential user-base.

I have nothing against Apple products (I think they make great hardware), but I prefer the Android ecosystem. Apparently, so do many users. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Smartphone_share_current.png

  • Jeanne

@ Robert The price for the BPM is $129/129€

@ Julius Making a BPM work in bluetooth is pretty tricky. We looked into that. So we decided to go with a wire. Maybe we'll make a v2 :)

  • Jomy

@Julius – Not all Android phones are smartphones. They are starting to make feature phones running Android. These have no access to the the marketplace or apps. These android feature phones are becoming very popular in China and India.

This is skewing the stats in favor of Android but the reality is that the addressable market of Android smartphones is growing much slower.

The iPhone, iPod and iPad represent a much more unified and established market for Withings products. There have been USB based BP meters for years. They have generally sold very poorly because they only appeal to techies. They have also been encumbered by poor software that is far from user-friendly. iOS devices are owned by millions of "normal" people who can and do purchase software and accessories for their phones.

Many Android feature phone owners can't purchase apps.
Many Android smartphone owners can but don't purchase apps.
Why? Android appeals to people who want something for nothing.
A free phone with 2-year contract.
Free apps if I look at your advertising.

Withings makes high quality products and they can't pay for it with advertising.

  • Joel

@ Jomy and @Julius. First off, I'm certainly not an Apple fanboy but as a business owner and someone in the technology space I can share that despite the Android market share stats the iOS ecosystem (as of now) is a better starting point for new devices/apps.

For someone trying to put a free ad-driven app in the hands of many people I think the combination of Android/iOS is a great place to start but especially for someone selling a higher end product/app/peripheral it's just a better business decision to launch a v1 product in the iOS area. One interface, one app store, one unified hardware connector and over 100 million devices in the hands of people who are eager and willing to pay for a quality product. The same cannot be said of Android. Launch the product on iOS, prove the marketplace, tweak the design, then port to Android.

  • jariarkko

I agree that we don't need an iphone linkage… just do a wifi version!

  • Pedro

Same here… i'll buy it if you make a wifi version

  • Joann

How much does the baby monitor cost??

  • Jeanne

The baby monitor has no public price yet

  • Tom

    Dear Jeanne,
" First, It was not possible to make it work with the Android because of the multiplicity of the Android connectors." Have you not heard of the Open Mobile Terminal Platform? They are unified behind a single connector.

    Regards
    Tom

  • skibum-za

It's Feb now, so where is it? I wanna order one.

  • KenWoods

    Wow.

The anti-apple people certainly do bitch loudly.
Classic–the silent majority sits back and waits, while the pissed-off-few scream and yell.

That's quite OK, though. The iOS devices are pandemic enough that it doesn't matter what the pissed-off-few say.
And good, actually. If the product doesn't do what you want it to, then don't buy it. Pretty simple.

Withings, just release it already, I'm ready to place my order.

  • ~dc

I think the new BPM looks great. Two small questions:

When is the latest estimate of release date?

What's the largest arm that the monitor will go round?

  • shulerd

I look forward to the baby monitor. Mine was sleeping this afternoon and I hate carrying a baby monitor around but would definitely keep an iphone app on to listen for him to wake up. How can we subscribe to an announcement about this being released?

  • John

Any update on the schedule? I think initially you said 'end of january'

  • Jeanne

@John The BPM will be available at the end of Q1 in Europe. The product is ready, we are waiting for its certification.

@~dc The arm size can go up to 42 cm / 16'2"

  • Mr.

  • dale.

    Très bien, merci.

  • Jack Po

When is it ready in the states?

  • Jeanne

    Which one? :)

  • mrmatalino

When will the baby monitor be ready in the US and have you announced a price yet? If not, do you know when these will be announced?

  • C

What going on with the baby monitor? Any updates? It's already March…

  • Jeanne

The baby monitor will be released in September

  • Adam

That really stinks… Our first child is due March 31st. I was really looking forward to getting this since the nursery will be upstairs while our bedroom is downstairs.

  • foreignthinker

This looks like a good product, but for all those complaining about it being tide to Apple, Dropcam provides pretty much the same functionality, it is available now and is viewable by iPhone, Android or any web browser.

  • foreignthinker

    tied not "tide"

  • mrmatalino

September? Wow. Disappointing to say the least. I've put off a baby monitor purchase since January for this one. Won't be buying from you guys anymore and can now delete this bookmark…

  • C

Have to agree with Adam..exactly same situation…our due date is on the 30th though…why Withings is not providing any info so we can start looking elsewhere?

  • Jeanne

The baby monitor is a very complex product, especially as we focus to make it as simple of use for you guys. I know it might be disappointing to learn it will be longer than expected, especially if you have a baby coming soon. So, please accept my apologies in the meantime. But I can promise you the wait worth it.

  • chimpcadet

where is the blood pressure monitor? it was supposed to be released in Jan! If it's not out by the end of the month, I'm not waiting anymore and i'll probably buy the one from your competitor, who, i should note, DID release theirs on schedule: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H4659LL/A

i noticed that you took the "coming soon" button off of the product's page. not a good sign.

  • Stacy Kvernmo

No! I just had my baby and was waiting to get this monitor. The blog post said March 2011 :( now I have to look elsewhere. I wanted this one so bad. Love that it is all Apple related.

  • Jeanne

@Chimpcadet The products are ready. We are waiting for its clearance.

    @Stacy Sorry about that :/

  • Tim

Can you give an estimate of how much of a delay it will be for the baby monitor?

  • Jeanne

Yes, the baby monitor should be ready for September. You can register here to be kept posted : http://www.withings.com/en/index/keepmeinformedsmart

  • FozzieBurt

When the Blood Pressure Monitor is finally released (I hope it's soon), will it integrate with Google Health like my Withings Scale does?

  • Jeanne

    Yep! :)

  • Greg and Kitty Flood

Any news on when this product will become available in the US? I see that there is a competitive BP monitor for sale in the Apple Store, however, it's for iPhone 4 only. I like that the Withings version works with any iOS 3.0 or higher device.

  • Jimmy

Any ideas on price for the baby monitor?! Are we talking $300-400?

  • Arturo

Last day of March! So excited because the blood pressure monitor SHOULd be released today by 11:59 PM. Right?

  • Jeanne

@Greg and Kitty Flood We are waiting for its FDA clearance. Ican't give you any fixed date as it is not in our hands. But it will be available in the coming days in the EU

@Jimmy There is no public price yet for the Baby Monitor

@Arturo Yup! It should be released in a few days maximum in the EU

  • Morgan

Wow, I've been waiting since January for your baby monitor, scheduled to be released in March 2011. Now, it looks like it's going to be September 2011. You just lost a customer. You should learn the phrase "under-promise and over-deliver."

    Cheers
    Tom

  • Napo

Still waiting, my baby comes in August so I may be forced to get something else. I was really looking FWD to this one, such a shame

  • nicole shealy

Any news on a September date? or a way to purcahse from Europe? i am due in October and really want this one but am concerned i am going to be disappointed with another post poned date.

  • Bastien

Hi Nicole, in fact, the baby monitor will be released in autumn 2011. We have no more information to be announced for the moment. We don’t want to rush it, after all we want you to be 100% happy with it! We’ll keep you updated.

  • Chris

    Hi,

Is this still due for September, or is it more likely to be October / November?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Bastien

Hi Chris, the baby monitor is due for this fall. We don’t have an official release date yet. Stay updated on the blog.

  • Johnny

You baby monitor product launch has been a debacle. First it was “March”. Then “September”. Now “Fall”. No additional information whatsoever since January, other than the delays (price, specs, etc). Someone needs to go back to marketing school…

  • Lon

Hey guys, what is going on with the baby monitor? Was announced in 2010 with a launch date in January 2010, then April 2010 which now has being pushed forward to ‘Autumn’ 2011. Considering that is a tech gadget and thinks chance every 6 months or so maybe you should launch the 2nd generation before us even seeing the 1st one!

  • Bastien

Hi Lon, we know you’ve been waiting a long time for the release of the Baby Monitor, we’ve been working hard to get it ready, and we can now confirm that it’ll be available in October!

  • Bastien

Hi Johnny, we know you’ve been waiting a long time for the release of the Baby Monitor, and we’ve been working hard to get it ready but didn’t want to rush the release as we want you to be perfectly satisfied once it’s out. But we can now confirm that it’ll be available in October!

  • Lon

That is great, many thanks for your response, best, Lon

  • Jose

    Hello,
i’m from Spain. I’ve been waiting for a long (LONG) time for the Baby Monitor. The release date (October) will be worldwide? When will be available in Spain? In October too?

    Thanks in advance.

  • http://blog.withings.com/ Withings

Hi Jose, yes the release date is the same worldwide!

  • Alexandre

    Hello everyone,
I am in Canada and my son was born last week. I have been patiently waiting for the baby phone but now I must move ahead and purchase the equipment.
Can you please confirm this will be available in October as indicated and if I can purchase it in Canada/or USA in October ? If not, I am afraid I will have to move on and purchase another product from your competition.
    Awating you comments.

  • http://blog.withings.com/ Withings

Hi Alexandre, we are very sorry for keeping you waiting. We didn’t want to rush the release as we want you to be 100% happy with it. However, I can assure you that the Smart Baby Monitor will be released before the end of the month.

  • RF

Hi. Can the monitor stream music from iTunes?

  • http://blog.withings.com/ Withings

Hello, it is not possible at the moment but we will take your suggestion into account for future versions of the app! Thank you for your feedback.
