Your Health Year in Review

January 30, 2015

January is a month of reflection. As a society, we reflect on the most memorable media and moments of the year before. As individuals, we reflect on the choices we’ve made, the people we’ve met, and the changes we hope to see in the coming year. To help further the health aspects of these reflections, we released a brand new “Year in Health Review” feature based on health and lifestyle habits.

Analyzing activity, weight, and sleep data of its users, we were able to create a “health-portrait” for different cities around the world. People in New York, for instance, tend to be later sleepers, and are more active later in the day, than the global average. In Berlin, we see a higher percentage of weight tracking than in other cities, while inhabitants of Sydney walk more on the weekends than weekdays.

In addition to these city overviews, every Withings user with steps and weight data will have access to his or her own 2014 Year in Health Review with the ability to analyze general trends, and discover which city’s inhabitants these tendencies are most like.

The database will be analyzed to determine the health profile of the user. Based on this profile, the user will be linked to the city that is most closely related to his or her health habits. The results are presented through an infographic broken up into three parts. These scrolling statistics will allow users to receive an explanation of why they have been matched to this particular city.

If your friends agree to share their personal data, you will also be able to discover which cities they are most closely related to, and how alike your health habits are. Of course privacy is of the utmost importance to us, and this data website is protected and secure, but users do have the option to share their healthy trends publicly via social networks.

Don’t have a Withings account yet? Not to worry, you can still discover the portrait of the average Withings user. You’ll be able to see which city is most represented by the Withings community, and take a guess of where you might fit in. To have a personalized health portrait in 2015, download the Health Mate app, named to Apple’s App Store Best of 2014, to start tracking your weight and steps now.
